Step 1: Before putting lotion or massage oil on your hands, just rest the whole hand on the recipients upper back and hold it here for a while. Now apply light pressure while moving your hands down both sides of the spine. Never apply pressure to the actual spine.
Step 2: Now warm some oil or body lotion in your hands by rubbing the hands together.
Step 3: Use broad massage strokes down the back of the arms and the back, warming the body and getting the blood flowing.
Step 4: Repeat step 1.
Step 5: Apply circular massage finger pressure along the side of the spine, starting at the base of the spine and moving up. Repeat this on the other side of the spine.
Step 6: Then use broader, circular massage motions with the palm of the hand. Repeat this on the other side of the spine.
Step 7: Now use one thumb on either side of the spine, at the same time, and repeat the circular massage motions.
Step 8: Next, use the palm of the hand and the forearms to sweep over the back with broad-stroke circular motions.
Step 9: Next, if you wish, you may use some chopping hand movements up the side of the spine and repeat on the other side.
Step 10: Press the palm of the hands into either side of the spine and sweep the hands sideways to the sides of the body. Move up the spine.
Step 11: Now apply circular thumb pressure movements around the scapula. Repeat on other side. Then massage over the scapula, one side at a time.
Step 12: Repeat step 3 and end with brief finger pressure up the neck.
