Prenatal Massage

This technique has been used for over 3,000 years. Prenatal massage was discovered in an Indian Ayurvedic medical manual with details around how to maneuver and handle pregnant patients through massage, helping to alleviate pain throughout pregnancy. Western regions cultivated these techniques and use them today.

What to Expect During a Prenatal Massage?

If you are in your first trimester, you will be lying on your side with a pillow supporting your head and another in between your legs. Prenatal massage includes several different techniques such as swedish, deep tissue, and neuromuscular massage.

Once you’re in the second trimester, you may lie on your back with supporting cushions under your legs. As with the first trimester, your therapist will perform different techniques based on your needs and requests. You will need to be in communication throughout your session so that your therapist can tailor a massage that will be perfect for you. The massage session varies based on where you body is at during your pregnancy. Please make sure to stay hydrated before and after the massage session to reduce fatigue.
